Cleveland Browns fans may not have to wait long to find out about their starting quarterback, after all.

Head coach Hue Jackson said Thursday that while he's still not ready to name a leader under center, he does have a timeline for when such a decision will be made.

"It's going to be before the first preseason game," Jackson said, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Cleveland kicks off its preseason action with an Aug. 12 matchup against the Green Bay Packers, leaving about two weeks' worth of training camp practices for Jackson and Co. to get a feel for their signal-callers.

Barring a monumental upset, the spot will come down to a competition between Robert Griffin III and Josh McCown.

Griffin was thought by many to be slated for a starting role after signing with the Browns in free agency. He can likely be considered the favorite, but McCown still represents a decent fallback option if the former first-rounder isn't yet ready to step back into the spotlight.
