Broncos' Mark Sanchez: Faces three-way competition

The Broncos' quarterback competition is wide open, The Denver Post reports.

Analysis:

The news comes from the top in the form of general manager John Elway, but the super-competitive Hall of Famer has little reason to say anything else. His job, and the job of head coach Gary Kubiak, is to keep all three competitors motivated. Split reps, which the Broncos are expected to divvy out, probably favor rookie Paxton Lynch because they offer a better shot at catching up than typical second or third-team reps. In the end, the job is still probably Sanchez's to lose given the fact that the defending champions have an opportunity to remain competitive with even average quarterback play. If he fails to provide that safety net, however, there would be little reason for the team not to throw Lynch in to see what he can do.
