Texans' J.J. Watt: Placed on PUP list

Watt (back) has been placed on the Texans' PUP list to begin training camp.

Analysis:

Watt underwent surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back last week, so landing on the PUP list really comes as no surprise. Following his procedure, Watt is expected to need at least eight weeks before he's able to return to the field, putting him on the fringe of being available for the start of the regular season. As a result, Watt will likely remain on the PUP list for most, if not all, of training camp and won't be activated until he's close to being able to practice again.
