Seahawks' Michael Bennett: Seeking new contract

Bennett's agent will meet with the Seahawks early this week to discuss his desire for a new contract, ESPN.com reports.

Analysis:

Bennett still has two years remaining on his current deal but is glaringly underpaid, as his respective upcoming base salaries are just $4 million and $6 million and aren't guaranteed. Coming off a career-high 52 tackles and 10 sacks, the 30-year-old Bennett is one of the league's most disruptive defensive lineman and is reportedly seeking a multi-year extension with money in the range of the top 6 or 7 players at his position. After their contract saga with safety Kam Chancellor last year, the Seahawks are well aware of the risk of alienating one of their best players, so it should be interesting to track the developments in Bennett's contract pursuit.
