Report: Vikings' Loadholt expected to retire Monday

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota Vikings right tackle Phil Loadholt is expected to retire Monday after seven seasons, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and Adam Caplan.

Loadholt, 30, has not played in a regular-season game since Nov. 23, 2014 after a torn pectoral muscle ended his season. The following year, he suffered a torn Achilles in an August preseason game, costing him the 2015 campaign.

He declared himself 100 percent healthy in May and was expected to compete with new signee Andre Smith for the starting right tackle spot.

A second-round draft pick of the Vikings in 2009, Loadholt was the rare offensive lineman that started every game he appeared in. He played in 89 games in his NFL career, fortifying the Vikings' line at right tackle.
