Texans' J.J. Watt: Recovery will take at least eight weeks

Watt (back) will need at least eight weeks before he is able to return to the field following back surgery Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Analysis:

Watt's surgery indeed did turn out to be the result of a herniated disk suffered in 2015-16. Initial reports stated that Watt would take six-to-eight weeks to recover enough to be able to suit up for the Texans, but now there are reports that recovery would take eight weeks minimum. That would put Watt's return date at Sept. 15, four days too late for Houston's season opener against the Bears. Other reports are claiming that rehabilitation could take up to 10 weeks. In any case, the super-star defensive end is in serious danger of missing his first ever NFL game.
