Colts' Phillip Dorsett: Expected to start in new-look Colts offense

Dorsett is projected for an every-down role in 2016 with the Colts transitioning to what is "definitely going to be a three-wide-receiver offense," ESPN's Mike Wells reports.

Analysis:

Dorsett endured an injury-marred rookie season in an offense that regularly featured two tight ends, but the Colts have extensively operated out of three-wide receiver sets during their offseason program. With the departure of TE Coby Fleener (Saints), this trend is expected to continue into the 2016 season. The main beneficiary in such a scenario would be Dorsett, who would consequently see every-down snaps on the outside opposite Donte Moncrief (toe), with T.Y. Hilton manning the slot. Additionally working in Dorsett's favor are the losses of Andre Johnson (free agent) and Griff Whalen (Dolphins), whom, along with the aforementioned Fleener, were the recipients of a combined 188 targets in 2015. Looking ahead, Dorsett's usage in the coming season could likely resemble his role during Week 17 last year, when he logged 53 snaps, received nine targets split wide, and recorded a tote out of the backfield as well.
