Report: Broncos reluctant to give Sanders $10M per year as talks stall

With the Von Miller contract situation resolved, the Denver Broncos can focus on getting a deal done with wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders.

While both sides seem optimistic about securing an extension, there's reluctance on the side of the Broncos to give Sanders a deal that would pay him $10 million in average annual salary, Nicki Jhabvala of The Denver Post reports.

Sanders will likely be looking for something in the neighborhood of Doug Baldwin's and Allen Hurns' recently signed contracts - both of which exceed $10 million per season on average.

The veteran receiver confirmed talks have essentially been shelved for now, but he's leaving the task to his agent.

"I don't know anything," Sanders told the Denver Post recently. "I told my agent, 'Don't get me involved unless there's something major.' I just sit back, work out and the rest will take care of itself."

A case against Sanders could be that he's a true No. 2 receiver on the Broncos with Demaryius Thomas occupying the top spot and under contract through 2020. At 29, Sanders is also older than a team would find ideal when making a significant investment.

In April, Sanders said he'd like to remain a Bronco for life but he could find himself a free agent at the conclusion of the season, and unless the team decides to use their franchise tag on him his most lucrative option could lie elsewhere.
