Aging Frank Gore motivated by doubters

Indianapolis Colts running back Frank Gore is staying motivated ahead of the 2016 season and he's looking to prove all the doubters that believe he's too old wrong.

Gore, 33, fell just short of the 1,000-yard rushing mark last season, proof he still has what it takes to be a productive NFL running back past the age most are able to.

"Believe me, I listen," Gore said of the talk that he's too old, according to Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star. "When I hear it, that's when I attack my training. When I'm tired, I tell myself what the people are saying about me. In that second workout (of the day) when I'm saying, 'Man, I don't want to do this.' I remind myself, 'They're saying you're old. They're saying you're 33. They're saying you can't do it this year.' I play games with myself off that stuff."

Gore is also looking to hold off incoming undrafted rookie Josh Ferguson, who's turned heads during offseason workouts and is expected to share the workload with Gore.

As such, the Miami product is spending his time working out in Florida with Giovani Bernard and Teddy Bridgewater in an effort to stay fresh.

"But, see, that's why I like working with young guys," Gore said. "You can't even tell (the difference), can you?"

Gore has two years left on his contract and will have a real chance to dominate the carries this season. An improved offensive line and the extra motivation to become the Colts' first 1,000-yard rusher since 2007 will also contribute to his 2016 campaign.
