Report: No long-term deal expected for Redskins' Cousins before deadline

Barring a late change in negotiations between the Washington Redskins and franchise-tagged quarterback Kirk Cousins, the two parties aren't expected to come to terms on a long-term contract before Friday's 4 p.m. ET deadline, reports ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The two parties are believed to have been far apart in their negotiations, but both the Redskins and Cousins have expressed their comfort with the quarterback playing 2016 under the $19.953-million tag.

Cousins cemented himself as the club's starter for the foreseeable future with a breakout 2015 campaign. However, with the going rate for franchise passers skyrocketing, the Redskins appear to want him to prove last season wasn't a fluke.

The Redskins reportedly offered Cousins a deal worth $16 million annually, but Cousins' camp is believed to be looking for an average salary closer to the tag number.
