Report: Rams, Johnson not expected to agree to long-term deal

The Los Angeles Rams are not expected to sign franchise-tagged cornerback Trumaine Johnson to a long-term contract before Friday's 4 p.m ET deadline, sources told Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.

The two sides are believed to be far apart in their positions, notes Florio.

The lack of a deal will mean Johnson will play the 2016 season under the $13.952-million tag.

Johnson had a breakout 2015 season, tying for third in the league with seven interceptions and leading the Rams with 17 passes defensed.

The 26-year-old's play led the Rams to use their tag on him rather than on fellow cornerback Janoris Jenkins, who departed for the New York Giants in free agency.

However, negotiations for a long-term deal have reportedly not progressed since Johnson signed his tender, and he is believed to be prepared to play the upcoming season under the one-year deal.
