Wolfe on Miller's contract standoff: 'I took a different route'

The Denver Broncos and Von Miller are getting dangerously close to having Friday's negotiation deadline pass without the two sides agreeing to a long-term deal.

If the reigning Super Bowl MVP is to be believed when he says he won't play the 2016 season under the franchise tag, the Broncos could be faced with a lengthy holdout.

Broncos defensive end Derek Wolfe, who signed a four-year, $36.7-million extension in January that ended up being well below market value, shared his thoughts on the looming issue in an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Tuesday.

"I just stay out of it," Wolfe said of the contract standoff. "Business is business, and that's his business and he has to do what he’s got to do. Obviously, I took a different route and decided this is where I wanted to be and I'm going to take a significant haircut to be here and that's fine with me. But other people don’t feel that way."

While the comments could potentially be taken as a shot at the willingness of players to hold out for more money, Wolfe is likely just expressing an understanding of the way the business works.

Either way, he and the rest of the Broncos organization will certainly hope that a deal takes shape and effectively eliminates the possibility of an absence dragging into the regular season.

Miller, long having established himself as one of the NFL's premier pass-rush talents, remains the key piece on Denver's top-ranked defense.
