Anderson: No question Broncos' offense will be run-heavy

Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson sees a heavy workload in his future.

With the team's uncertainty revolving around the quarterback position following the retirement of Peyton Manning, the departure of Brock Osweiler, the trade for Mark Sanchez ,and the selection of Paxton Lynch in the first round, Anderson suggested the Broncos will be run-heavy to help stabilize the offense.

"I don't think there’s a question what coach (Gary Kubiak) wants to do," Anderson said recently, according to ESPN's Jeff Legwold. "All you have to do is look out there and see a fullback running around ... I mean, we even drafted one. (Kubiak) wants to run the ball."

The Broncos allowed Anderson to test the waters in free agency, then matched an $18-million offer sheet he signed with the Miami Dolphins.

The Broncos also retained running back Ronnie Hillman and added to the position with the selection of Devontae Booker in the fourth round.

Ultimately, it sounds like it will be Anderson who gets the first crack at a featured role.

"C.J. is ready to be an every-down guy," Kubiak said recently. "Just watching him, I think his condition level is the best that I’ve seen it since I’ve been here. You all watch him practice. He's had a really good offseason."

The Broncos won Super Bowl 50 on the strength of an all-time defense and a mediocre offense. If they can boost the rushing attack this season and the defense returns near the same form as a season ago, a repeat championship could be in the cards regardless of how the quarterback position shakes out.
