Newton commissions inspirational King Midas portrait

Reigning NFL MVP Cam Newton has the golden touch - or at least a very large picture of it.

Newton commissioned a painting from artist Mark Paul Deren, working together on a King Midas concept.

Deren posted a picture of the piece on Instagram, explaining that it contains a reminder to seize the moment.

The myth of MIDAS was that everything he touched turned to gold, which actually was a curse when he turned his daughter into a gold statue by hugging her. So I thought to myself, what’s the one thing that you can’t touch…..T1ME….No matter who you are or what you do, TIME is something we can never get back and WILL RUN OUT. Our time HERE, NOW, at this very moment, is GOLDEN….
