Ditka rejects invitation to speak at Republican convention
Former Chicago Bears head coach Mike Ditka turned down a personal invitation from Donald Trump to speak at the Republican National Convention.
Ditka publicly endorsed Trump in March, while calling Barack Obama "The worst president we've ever had."
Regardless, Ditka won't be heading to Cleveland and explained his decision this week.
"I spoke with Mr. Trump this afternoon and he invited me. But I don't think I'm going to go," Ditka said Wednesday to Kim Janssen of the Chicago Tribune.
The 76-year-old said he doesn't move often anymore, and hinted that he could feel out of place during the convention.
"I can help him, but I don't know if I can give a speech at the convention,” Ditka said. "I don't travel much anymore except between Chicago and Florida, and giving a speech at a convention isn't really my style."
Ditka's been a staunch Republican throughout his career, but condemned the party for their recent conduct, conceding he'd vote for Trump because he's the presumptive nominee.
"The Republican Party has its head up its ass - if he's the candidate, you’ve got to get behind him. It does the party no good. They're a bunch of assholes.”
