Texans' Mercilus plans to be ready for training camp

Houston Texans linebacker Whitney Mercilus expects to be fully recovered from a hamstring injury ahead of training camp.

Mercilus sat out during organized team activities as a result. Coming off his breakout season where he recorded 52 tackles and 12 sacks, Mercilus is looking to return to action during training camp.

"I'm feeling good, starting to get healthy," Mercilus said to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. "I've been here for an extra two weeks since we've been out just rehabbing and things like that, just making sure I'm on pace to make it back for training camp."

Mercilus is visiting with a specialist in Los Angeles, and the Texans linebacker said he's familiar with the doctor.

"I get to work with a specialist who has worked with (Green Bay Packers linebacker) Clay Matthews," Mercilus said. "It helped him. I trust the guy and trained with him three years ago."

One of the pillars of the Texans' pass-rush, Mercilus' health is imperative to the Texans' bid to repeat as AFC South champions.
