Jets' Richardson suspended 1 game for violating personal conduct policy

The NFL announced Thursday that New York Jets defensive end Sheldon Richardson has been suspended one game for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

Richardson's punishment stems from an incident last July in which the Missouri product pleaded guilty to resisting arrest. The 25-year-old was pulled over for driving 143 mph with a 12-year-old in the backseat of the vehicle. Police also reportedly smelled marijuana and found a couple of loaded guns in the car. While he avoided charges in those incidents, the NFL wasn't so lenient.

Richardson is no stranger to NFL discipline, as the 2013 Defensive Rookie of the Year was also suspended the first four games of last season for violating the substance abuse policy.

The Jets open the season at home against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sept. 11.
