Titans' Justin Hunter: May need to earn roster spot

Hunter (ankle) may have to compete for a roster spot, the Tennessean reports.

Analysis:

The 34th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, Hunter enters the final year of his rookie contract with just 68 catches in 35 career games (13 starts) and is coming off an injury-shortened season in which he posted a 22-264-1 receiving line on 31 targets over nine appearances. The Titans probably hope to keep the physically gifted Hunter around for at least one more season, but it's possible he could fall on the wrong side of the bubble if all the team's key wideouts make it through camp uninjured. Hunter may have already fallen behind during the offseason program, as he was limited while recovering from the mid-November ankle fracture that ended his 2015 campaign. Meanwhile, fifth-round rookie Tajae Sharpe was one of the stars of the offseason program, seemingly cementing himself alongside Dorial Green-Beckham, Kendall Wright and Rishard Matthews as locks for the final roster. Harry Douglas also figures to stick, as he's the veteran leader of the group and doesn't carry a cumbersome cap hit until 2017. That being said, Hunter could still push for a significant role if he's healthy for the start of camp, as first-team wideout reps should be up for grabs.
