Murray looking forward to running downhill in Titans' offense

DeMarco Murray underwent a raucous 15 months after winning the rushing title in 2014, but the proverbial storm is over.

Murray was not retained by the Dallas Cowboys at the end of the 2014 season, where he rushed for a league-best 1,845 yards. The 28-year-old instead signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in what proved to be an ill-fated stint.

In March, Murray was traded to the Tennessee Titans where he's expected to star as the lead back.

Murray said he's a better fit for the Titans' offense and is looking forward to contributing as one of the key pillars of the team.

"It's strictly downhill and that’s what I’ve been accustomed to my entire life," Murray said Tuesday of the Titans' scheme on "The Jim Rome Show". "Nothing against last year or what happened, it just didn't work out, but I'm very excited about this upcoming season and looking forward to it."

After undergoing arguably the most difficult stretch of his career, Murray said he's learned from the ordeal and is translating the experience into a teaching moment.

"It's hard to look back, but it was a great season two years ago and it definitely was a tough one last year,” Murray said. "But I think from both seasons, I took some positives things from it and learned and appreciated the game more and appreciated the time you have to play the sport.

"Obviously it was tough last year, and I'm just looking for a huge back bounce year this year. I don't mean it individually but collectively as a team, and we know how hard we have to work to make our goals happen, and it’s definitely going to take a lot of hard work."

Murray's been offered a shot at redemption, featuring as an important component of the Titans' offense. In a scheme that's tailored to his strengths, don't be surprised if Murray challenges for the rushing title once again.
