Harbaugh hopeful Suggs will return for training camp

Baltimore Ravens outside linebacker Terrell Suggs isn't ready to confirm his status as he recovers from injury, but he's showing signs of a potential return during training camp.

Suggs suffered a torn left Achilles last year in a Week 1 matchup against the Denver Broncos, forcing him to miss the final 15 regular-season games. Instead of addressing the media directly, he elected to release a statement Thursday through the team regarding his injury.

I know there are many questions about where I am with my injury. While I respect the media's right to ask, I hope everyone can respect that I am 100-percent focused on rehabbing and preparing to be the best player I can be at the start of our season. I will address all of those questions during training camp.

While head coach John Harbaugh agreed it's too early to determine Suggs' status for the season or if he'll need to begin training camp on the physically unable to perform list, he's been impressed by the progress.

"It's in the hands of the rehab people and Terrell. He looks good. He's working hard. He's been here for quite a few weeks now, rehabbing and conditioning and all those things," Harbaugh told Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun. "From a time frame standpoint, he has a real chance to be ready to go. When we decide to practice him or how much or all that kind of thing, I think will depend on what's in his and our best interest as far as having him at his best when we start playing games. We'll just have to play that out once training camp starts."

Suggs also tore his Achilles before the 2012 season, missing eight games before helping his team to a Super Bowl championship.

The Ravens are also hoping to get fellow pass-rusher Elvis Dumervil back for training camp after offseason foot surgery. Without Dumervil or Suggs, rookie Kamalei Correa and second-year pro Za'Darius Smith would likely be called upon to pressure the quarterback.
