Packers hope Lacy can maintain conditioning ahead of camp

Eddie Lacy entered the offseason with a goal of cutting weight, and training with P90X founder Tony Horton helped him make considerable progress.

As the Green Bay Packers wrap up their mandatory minicamp, they hope the veteran running back can maintain that conditioning in the five weeks prior to training camp.

"I hope he definitely goes with the plan that he used this year as opposed to last year," head coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

"He's just like all of our guys. Our strength coach (Mark Lovat) and nutritionist (Adam Korzun), we have programs for our guys. There's communication on where they're going to work, who they're going to work with. There's a lot of great programs out there, and there's relationships that we're involved with some of those guys. All of our players need to take care of business over the next five weeks."

Lacy hasn't disclosed whether he'll again train with Horton, but the last program certainly began to yield the desired results. He was reportedly down 15-18 pounds when he arrived for Green Bay's offseason workout program in April.

Continuing on that path, or at least maintaining his weight, could conceivably have Lacy poised for a bounce-back season in a featured role.

After racking up 1,100 rushing yards in each of his first two seasons, the former second-round pick was in and out of the starting lineup en route to a 758-yard showing in 2015.
