Jets' Revis practices for first time since wrist surgery

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis participated in practice Wednesday for the first time since having surgery on his right wrist in March.

Revis took part in position drills during the second day of minicamp, but did not practice during team drills - something he said Tuesday that he hoped to be able to do when training camp starts in late-July.

''You have to wait and see,'' coach Todd Bowles said Wednesday.

Revis had surgery 13 weeks ago to repair an injury; the team announced in March it was a torn ligament, but the cornerback said it was a ruptured tendon. He played through the injury for most of last season after being hurt around Week 3.

''The running is encouraging,'' Bowles said. ''With a wrist injury, individual running drills doesn't tell you anything. It just tells you he's moving around.''

The key will be whether Revis will be able to jam receivers without fearing that he'll reinjure the wrist, and that likely won't come until training camp.

''We talked about it and we're going to be careful with it,'' Bowles said. ''If he's feeling good, he's going to let me know. I trust him if he's not feeling good and he lets me know, and I trust that, too.''

NOTES: WR Kenbrell Thompkins and RT Breno Giacomini had excused absences from practice. Thompkins tweeted ''Graduation day!!'' and was attending a relative's ceremony. Giacomini was at the facility earlier in the day, but left before practice. ... CB Juston Burris, a fourth-round pick, and WR Robby Anderson are dealing with hamstring injuries. ... At an event in Manhattan on Tuesday, Hall of Famer Joe Namath said he thinks Geno Smith will start at QB over Ryan Fitzpatrick - even if Fitzpatrick re-signs with the Jets. ''What do I think of it? I think Joe Namath has earned the right to say anything he wants,'' Bowles said, laughing. ''He's a Super Bowl quarterback. You have to ask Joe that. I don't know if it's going to be true or not.''
