Bills' LeSean McCoy: Handle with care

The Bills are going to limit McCoy (ankle) in training camp and may try to keep his preseason reps limited to one or two drives, ESPN's Mike Rodak reports. Running backs coach Anthony Lynn said this is "by design," adding, "[to] keep him fresh, going into his eighth year, [there is] a lot of miles on those legs. So we'll do the same thing without training camp with him."

Analysis:

Hamstring and knee issues held McCoy back in his first season with the Bills, so given his experience and the fact that's he's already nicked up, this seems like a smart tact. Even though McCoy has been relatively healthy over the course of his career - he's played in 15 or 16 games during five of his seven NFL seasons - he'll carry some injury risk if you take him in the first two rounds of your draft. That said, his upside remains high, given his skill set (his cuts looked great when healthy last season), while the Bills have one of the league's better offensive lines and lean heavily toward the run.
