Jamaal Charles is set to take a substantial step Tuesday in his recovery from a torn ACL.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced that the running back will take part in individual drills at the first practice of the club's three-day minicamp.

Having missed all of Kansas City's offseason activities, Charles likely still has some work to do before receiving clearance for full-team sessions.

The 29-year-old was always going to be brought along slowly, though, and the progress would at least appear to give him a chance to work his way back to full strength by Week 1.

Charles was once again one of the NFL's top running backs last season before suffering the season-ending knee injury in Week 5. He should continue to be the Chiefs' offensive centerpiece if healthy, with Spencer Ware and Charcandrick West seeing snaps on a rotational basis.
