Lions to add cheerleaders

Kirby Lee / USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions are adding cheerleaders.

Most fans probably didn't realize the Lions were without cheerleaders, but they were one of a small group of teams not to employ scantily clad women to entertain fans during commercial breaks and perform community service.

"The Ford Family is unwavering in their commitment to improving the Detroit Lions fan experience on and off the field," Lions team president Rod Wood said in a statement announcing the decision. "After thorough consideration and receiving input from our fans through season ticket member surveys and focus groups, we believe that this is an opportunity to elevate our game day entertainment."

The Lions' announcement leaves six teams without cheerleaders: the Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Green Bay Packers, New York Giants, and Pittsburgh Steelers.
