Alshon Jeffery reports for Bears minicamp

Bruce Kluckhohn / USA TODAY Sports

Alshon Jeffery skipped the Chicago Bears' voluntary offseason workouts, but won't hold out for mandatory work. The team announced Monday that its franchise-tagged wideout has reported for minicamp.

It's common practice for players under the franchise tag to hold out from offseason work before signing the tender, but with Jeffery signing his $14.6-million tender, he has no plans to miss mandatory work.

"I feel great to be back with my teammates and I look forward to competing," Jeffery said in a statement released by the Bears.

Jeffery and the Bears are expected to pursue a long-term agreement ahead of the July 15 deadline, but it's possible the Bears prefer retaining him on the one-year franchise tag before broaching long-term talks in 2017.
