The Los Angeles Rams waived wide receiver Stedman Bailey with the non-football injury designation, a source told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Bailey was shot twice in the head in November while sitting in a car in Miami Gardens, Fla. The 25-year-old underwent surgery shortly thereafter.

In February, Bailey said he was hoping to make a return to football although doctors told him he was at an elevated risk of sustaining further head injuries.

"It's still a dream of mine to do good things in the NFL," Bailey said. "I just came off my third year of being in the NFL and I feel like I've got so much more in me. I want to at least have a 10-year career, so after three years, I feel like I still have a lot left in my tank to just keep going and continue to live out my dream."

Bailey ran routes with fellow Rams wide receiver Tavon Austin in April, in an ostensible comeback attempt.

Through a three-year career, Bailey's best season occurred in 2014 when he caught 30 passes for 435 yards and a touchdown.
