Report: Chargers, Allen talking multi-year extension

Jake Roth / USA TODAY Sports

The San Diego Chargers and wide receiver Keenan Allen are engaged in discussions about a long-term extension, according to NFL.com's Conor Orr.

Allen is entering the final year of his existing contract and is slated to earn $1.65 million in base salary.

The 24-year-old was off to a torrid start in 2015, recording 67 receptions for 725 yards and four touchdowns in eight games, before a kidney injury cut his season short.

Allen has exceeded expectations since being drafted in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft, emerging as Philip Rivers' primary target.

The Chargers will likely be seeking to reach a deal before training camp begins.
