Report: Fitzpatrick would take 1-year, $12M deal from Jets

Ryan Fitzpatrick appears ready to end his standoff with the New York Jets.

The journeyman-turned-starting quarterback has informed the Jets he would accept a one-year contract for $12 million fully guaranteed, a source told Gary Myers of The New York Daily News.

The Jets haven't made the offer, but the numbers are in line with the amount Fitzpatrick would earn in the first year of a reported three-year deal the team already tabled.

It's the first report of Fitzpatrick coming off his demand for a long-term deal, so a compromise between the two sides may happen at some point in the near future.

That being said, the Jets are likely interested in keeping Fitzpatrick around a few years as an insurance policy against Geno Smith and Christian Hackenberg's development, so a one-year deal may not be desirable.

Fitzpatrick would be gambling on himself in 2016, hoping the 3,905-yard, 31-touchdown season he had in 2015 wasn't a one-off. With the Jets' defense ready to contend, the franchise may have to bite the bullet and lock him down for one season.
