Redskins' Jamison Crowder: Expected to make second-year leap

Kirk Cousins expects Crowder to make a jump in his second professional season, Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports. "He's a great teammate, smart player, has a natural sense of how to get open, how to run different option routes and choice routes, great natural hands and is really good after the catch pulling away from people," Cousins said. "So, just add him [to a list] of guys who we are excited about being able to throw to."

Analysis:

Following the selection of Josh Doctson in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, a cursory glance at the receiving corps would seem to indicate there are too many bodies to keep in the loop. In addition to Doctson and Crowder, DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon, Jordan Reed, and free-agent pickup Vernon Davis will all be vying for Cousin's attention. Thus, it's encouraging to hear platitudes coming from Cousins, who has hit the speedy Crowder in stride numerous times during the offseason program to date. If he indeed takes the leap intimated by Cousins, Crowder will seek to improve upon rookie marks of 59 catches (on 78 targets) for 604 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games.
