A.J. Green: Bengals' offense will go as far as Dalton and I take it

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green and quarterback Andy Dalton have been together for six seasons. Over the span, they've formed a dynamic partnership that's been the driving force of the Bengals' offense.

Now that both are considered veteran leaders on the Bengals, Green understands that the offense will only go as far as he and Dalton can take it.

"Andy and I have been here long enough, this offense go as we go," said Green, according to Paul Dehner Jr. of the Cincinnati Enquirer. "We don’t need no coaches or anybody to push us. We know what we have to do to get this offense to go. We know the offense run through us."

The Green-Dalton partnership may be even more vital for the Bengals this upcoming season. As Cincinnati opened its first OTAs of the season, they were without several key members of their recent success.

Wide receivers Mohamed Sanu and Marvin Jones, who combined for more than 1,000 receiving yards in 2015, left during free agency.

Hue Jackson was rewarded for molding the Bengals' offense into one of the most complete units in the league over the past two seasons by being made the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns.

Even tight end Tyler Eifert, the other key cog in Cincinnati's offense, was absent. Eifert is set to undergo ankle surgery and will be sidelined for around three months.

All these question marks for the Bengals mean the onus will be on Green and Dalton to carry the rest of the unit during the transition.

"Those guys have been together for five-six years," cornerback Adam Jones said. "The chemistry between those two are almost like a bolt-nut. It should go in every time."
