Chris Johnson: Cardinals could have league's best backfield

The Arizona Cardinals posted the most yards in the NFL last season with an impressive all-around offense.

One of the biggest pieces of that offense was the backfield tandem of Chris Johnson and David Johnson. The pair of running backs led the way for the Cardinals' eighth-ranked rushing attack. Veteran Chris had 814 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games, while rookie David ran for 581 yards and eight scores in five starts.

Chris is one of the few members of the 2,000-yard rushing club, and he believes he can recreate some of that magic alongside his backfield partner.

"I feel like me and him can probably be the best tandem in the NFL this year,” Chris told Arizona Sports 98.7 FM on Thursday.

He added, "Me and David got a great relationship. We help each other out. Just to be able to have a full offseason for us to work together and do all those types of things, I think it'll be a better year. If everything goes well and we continue to work as hard as we're going to work, I feel like we'll probably be the best tandem in the NFL this year."

Both players missed games due to injury last season, but now that they are back together and healthy, the younger Johnson agrees that they could have something special in Arizona.

"We'll be great together," David said. "C.J. continues to help me out in my running, continues to teach some of the tips of the trade of how to run the ball and make it easier for me and the linemen blocking."

The Cardinals came within a game of the Super Bowl last season. With Carson Palmer's spotty playoff record, it may be the running game that eventually gets them all the way there.
