Texans' Hopkins focused on becoming more physical in 2016

Houston Texans star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins has arguably cemented his position among the NFL's elite, but he's still striving for improvement.

The 6-foot-1, 218-pound wideout said he's spent the offseason focusing on getting bigger and stronger, while maintaining the speed that allowed him to produce the third-most receiving yards in the league last season (1,521).

"That's a goal with everybody who plays a pro sport is to get stronger and faster and work on things that you lack," Hopkins said, according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. "I would say I've gained weight, gained more muscle."

Despite his dominance for the Texans over the past two seasons, catching 187 passes, Hopkins said he wants to continue to progress.

His ability after the catch was a particular weakness in 2015. Hopkins' 201 yards in the category ranked him 118th among all NFL players.

"For myself, I want to improve in every category," Hopkins said. "I wasn't good at YAC, whatever that is. I don't really need too many categories, but I know I want to get better in any categories where I wasn't in the top five in the league."

The Texans picked up the fifth-year option on Hopkins' rookie deal in April.

He'll now earn $7.915 million in 2017 under the option, unless a long-term deal can be agreed upon. A new contract extension isn't imminent, but Hopkins isn't concerning himself about when he'll receive his big pay day.

"Yeah, man, I'm not rushing it," Hopkins said. "It'll happen, just got to go out there and play my game and keep doing what I'm doing."
