Ravens' Webb adjusting to full-time move to safety

After seven seasons in the NFL, Lardarius Webb is, in an sense, a rookie once more.

Webb has spent his career playing cornerback, but he'll make the transition to safety for the 2016 season.

The 30-year-old started two of his 15 games at safety last season, and although he'll miss the competitiveness of playing cornerback, Webb is excited about learning his new role.

"(Playing cornerback) was a pride thing," Webb said, according to Jake Lourim of The Baltimore Sun. "I liked playing the position. It's a competitive edge. I like being out there playing one-on-one and competing with some of the best wide receivers throughout the game. But I love the safety (position). It's a great transition. I'm loving it."

Several seasons ago, Webb appeared set to emerge as one of the league's premier corners. However, a series of injures caused his performance to drop, necessitating the switch to safety in order to lengthen his career.

Now, he'll form a tandem with one of the most experienced safeties in the league, Eric Weddle.

Weddle was acquired during free agency, and is acting as a mentor to Webb.

"I'm never too old or too young to learn from someone," Webb said. "I'm always reaching out to Eric: 'If you know something, tell me. If you see something wrong, please tell me.'

"If he has anything to tell me, I'm always listening."
