Reports conflict on why Jets' Decker, Marshall are skipping OTAs

New York Jets wide receivers Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall are skipping the team's voluntary OTAs this week. That much we know.

What we still don't know is why the pair of veterans have decided to stay away from workouts.

If you ask Manish Mehta of the Daily News, it's because the duo wants to send a message about their desire for the Jets to re-sign quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

"(If) you don't think that Marshall and Decker were sending a subtle message to the powers that be that it's time to end this silliness with their quarterback, I have some prime swampland in Florida to sell you," Mehta wrote Thursday.

However, there's no indication Mehta has actually spoken to either receiver to verify that their decision to skip OTAs has anything to do with Fitzpatrick.

Brian Costello of the New York Post did apparently speak to a source close to Marshall, who stated the 32-year-old's no-show has nothing to do with Fitzpatrick. But Costello reports that Decker is, indeed, staying away out of solidarity with Fitzpatrick.

Then there's Decker's wife, Jessie James Decker, who's posted several photos on Instagram in recent days detailing how happy she is to finally get to take a family vacation with her husband and their young child:

With the Deckers presumably in paradise, it's possible they haven't even heard all this talk about Eric's absence being linked to Fitzpatrick.

Offseason drama is nothing new for the Jets, who play in the NFL's biggest media market and always seem to have some degree of internal turmoil to be reported in the local tabloids.

For now, though, there's no indication of any significant discord between the Jets' starting wideouts and the team. They're skipping voluntary OTAs, but every indication is they'll be present for mandatory practices later this spring.
