New York Jets wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker missed voluntary practice for the second consecutive day Wednesday.

Some speculated that the pillars of the team's passing game missed practice as a protest on behalf of quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, who remains a free agent as the two parties haven't reached a new contract.

Brian Costello of the New York Post reported that Marshall's absence isn't related to the Fitzpatrick scenario, but Decker is sitting out as he wants the veteran quarterback to return.

"It's voluntary," Jets head coach Todd Bowles said to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. "When they finish doing what they have to do, they'll be in."

Quarterback Geno Smith said he's fine with his teammates missing the workouts.

"I do understand those guys - we all had a wonderful year last year," Smith said to Seth Walder of the New York Daily News. "I don't want to speak on anyone else's statements, but it doesn't rub me the wrong way at all."

Jets center Nick Mangold skipped organized team activities because his wife gave birth Tuesday.
