Dez Bryant may be back on the practice field well in advance of training camp this summer.

The Dallas Cowboys' star receiver, who underwent surgery on his right foot and ankle early in the offseason, told reporters Wednesday that he's scheduled for X-rays next week.

Admittedly excited about the possibility of soon rejoining his teammates in a full capacity, Bryant added that he hopes the upcoming tests will result in him receiving clearance.

"I (have) been working out real good," Bryant said to ESPN's Jean-Jacques Taylor. "I'm getting back to my old self. I feel like I'm on track - past track - and I'm excited. I'm just ready for these results next week.

"I'm trying my best to remain patient because we have a long way to go until they let me get back on the field. Right now, I'm just getting back into rhythm. They're not going to let me do everything, so I'm OK."

Bryant is coming off a disappointing year in which he missed five games after suffering a foot injury in Dallas' regular-season opener. Though he returned for an eight-game stretch before again sitting out in Week 17, it never appeared as though he was able to get back to full strength.
