Broncos' Ware, Okung miss start of OTAs with injuries

The Denver Broncos lost several familiar faces this offseason due to free agency and retirement.

On Tuesday, when the Broncos opened their organized team activities, there were a few more faces missing - for different reasons.

Outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware was absent from the first practice after missing five games last season with a back injury. That injury flared up again, keeping Ware from participating, but head coach Gary Kubiak isn't concerned about his absence.

"I would tell you it’s probably more preventative than anything," Kubiak told Mike Klis of 9News. "He’s going to be a day-to-day participant. I’m going to have about 10 guys that are going to go every other day. We’ll probably make decisions on DeMarcus day to day on how he’s feeling."

Recently signed offensive tackle Russell Okung is projected to start at left tackle for the Broncos next season, but he will be held out of action through OTAs while rehabbing his surgically repaired shoulder.

Broncos tight end Virgil Green is also expected to miss "a good portion of OTAs" while recovering from finger surgery, according to Kubiak.
