Ron Rivera knows that Cam Newton is only just beginning to make good on his limitless potential on the football field.

Speaking with reporters at offseason team activities Tuesday, the Carolina Panthers head coach said he's looking for Newton to continue improving in all areas of his game.

"Everything," Rivera said according to David Newton of ESPN. "Last year we talked about developing certain throws and he did that. Can he develop and get better physically? Yeah. His skill set can continue to get better.

"I know they're constantly working on his technique, his footwork, his delivery ... and then again work on the mental aspect as well. I'm not putting anybody on blast. I'm just challenging him that he can become a better football player."

Newton, of course, ran away with MVP honors after a stellar 2015 campaign.

The 27-year-old finished the regular season with 3,837 yards and 35 touchdowns through the air, while adding another 636 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground, before going on to lead Carolina to an appearance in Super Bowl 50.

As several quarterbacks from the older generation now close in on the end of their respective careers, Newton figures to have a place among the league's elite for many years to come.

Answering Rivera's challenge would not only continue to make him an MVP favorite over that stretch, but it would also go a long way toward Carolina's chances of remaining a top Super Bowl contender.
