The Cincinnati Bengals are scheduled to work out veteran pass-rusher Dwight Freeney this week, reports Coley Harvey of ESPN, citing a source.

Freeney, a seven-time Pro Bowler, again hit the free-agent market this offseason on the heels of a highly productive one-year stint with the Arizona Cardinals.

After signing with the club in October, the 36-year-old went on to rack up eight sacks across just 11 regular-season appearances.

The strong season suggests that Freeney still has plenty left to offer as a rotational edge defender, and that's almost certainly the role he'd fill, were he to land in Cincinnati.

Freeney, who spent the first 11 years of his NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts, will enter the 2016 campaign with 119.5 career sacks. The impressive total puts him 19th on the NFL's all-time list, and third among active players.
