Carolina Panthers linebacker Shaq Thompson was involved in a traffic accident that left former Duke quarterback Anthony Boone injured Sunday morning.

Thompson's vehicle crossed the center line while driving in North Carolina, colliding head on with Boone's car travelling in the opposite direction, according to Bill Voth of Black and Blue Review.

"Shaq informed us he was involved in a traffic accident and we are in the process of gathering more information," a Panthers spokesman told Pro Football Talk.

Thompson and Boone are reportedly not acquainted, and North Carolina Highway Patrol said alcohol was involved but not a factor in the accident. Thompson was not charged but was cited with a traffic violation.

Boone, who spent time in Detroit Lions training camp and has also spent time with the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL, was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
