Jets' Decker: Brady's suspension means AFC East is wide open

USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots have dominated their division like no other team over the past 13 seasons, winning 12 AFC East titles over that period.

Every offseason, teams in the division appear to close the gap, but always ultimately fall short.

However, with Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's four-game suspension reinstated for the start of the season, New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker said during an appearance on NFL Network the division is there for the taking.

"With Brady being suspended four games, I think it makes the division up for grabs. I believe in this team and we're ready to make the run now," Decker said, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

Unlike the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills, who are scheduled to face the Patriots in Weeks 2 and 4, respectively, the Jets will face New England with Brady, not Jimmy Garoppolo, under center.

Despite Brady's suspension, the Patriots remain the odds-on favorite to clinch the division. However, if they crumble without Brady and lose three or four of their opening contests, Decker and the Jets might be the biggest threat to dethrone them.
