Ex-NFL player looking to climb Seven Summits
Former New Orleans Saints wide receiver Mark Pattison is more than halfway to reaching his goal of scaling the Seven Summits.
Already having climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Elbrus, Mount Kosciuszko, and Mount Aconcagua, Pattison has Mount Denali, Mount Vinson, and Mount Everest remaining to become the first NFL player to accomplish the impressive feat.
"I climbed Mount Rainier (in Washington, the highest mountain on the Cascade Range) and I hit 50 (years old), I really started to get more reflective in my life and I wanted to do something significant," Pattison said, according to the Saints' official website. "So I was looking at what are those things that I can still do.
"Certainly, I can't play football any more. Since I was climbing all the time and I've got some buddies that have done the Seven Summits, I started researching it and looks like there's no NFL player who'd ever done the Seven Summits, I said, 'I'm going to go do this.'"
Pattison, a seventh-round pick of the Los Angeles Raiders in 1985, spent two years with the Saints from 1987-88. He appeared in 15 games over that stretch, hauling in 10 receptions for 140 yards.
