Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson reiterated that Sam Bradford is the team's starting quarterback during a press conference on Tuesday.

Bradford demanded a trade when the Eagles obtained the second overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and used it to select fellow quarterback Carson Wentz. The incumbent starter hasn't addressed the media since requesting a move out of Philadelphia, but is expected to speak Tuesday.

Amid rampant rumors, Pederson provided Bradford with a firm vote of confidence.

"Sam is still the starting quarterback. Carson has a long way to go in this system but he's learning every day," Pederson told reporters.

"I expect Sam not to look over his shoulder. I expect him to look forward. That's the message I gave to him. He's the guy."

Bradford started 14 games last season, completing 65 percent of his passes for 3.725 yards and 19 touchdowns against 14 interceptions. While the 28-year-old boasts invaluable inexperience, he's completed a full season just once in his NFL career.

Although Pederson advocated in favor of Bradford, he was also sufficiently impressed by Wentz.

"He's a very intelligent guy, sees the field extremely well, and he's a leader too."

For the time being, Bradford is in firm control of the starting quarterback position, but Wentz is expected to push the former first overall pick as hard as he can during preseason.
