Raiders' Connor Cook: Draws praise from coach

Cook is expected to compete with Matt McGloin to be the Raiders' second-string quarterback this season, SFGate.com reports.

Analysis:

Cook was taken in the fourth round of last month's draft after a highly successful four-year college career at Michigan State, but with Derek Carr clearly Oakland's long-term answer at quarterback, Cook was selected primarily to bolster the Raiders' backup options. Although Cook understandably had some hiccups during the Raiders' rookie camp last week, head coach Jack del Rio reportedly walked away impressed by his approach and mentality, which figures to help him as he vies for an increased snap count once OTAs begin.
