Falcons' new stadium to feature 'game-changing' concession prices

The Atlanta Falcons will be putting on a clinic when it comes to fan experience in their new stadium.

Looking ahead to the grand opening of Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2017, the Falcons announced Monday that concessions are set to feature a "game-changing" pricing structure.

From the team's official release:

  • $2 – Non-alcoholic beverage products with unlimited free refills (at freestanding refill stations)
  • $2 – Dasani bottled water; hot dogs; pretzels; popcorn
  • $3 – Peanuts; pizza; nachos; waffle fries
  • $5 – 12 oz. domestic beer

Such pricing would, of course, come as a shock to any fan who has set foot in an NFL stadium over the past decade.

Falcons owner Arthur Blank indicated that the difference comes with the fact that the new stadium, unlike the Georgia Dome, won't be run by the state.

And the move doesn't appear to be a temporary promotional stunt, either.

Mike Gomes, the team's senior vice president of fan experience, explained that the focus on value comes with improvements in regard to both pricing and overall quality.

"To truly reimagine the food and beverage experience, we needed to first and foremost offer fans the best value possible," Gomes said. "Value starts with pricing but also includes improved quality and freshness, a variety of options that can appeal to all fans and the best speed of service - all of which we have delivered on through Mercedes-Benz Stadium's innovative approach to the food and beverage program."

Construction on the state-of-the-art facility is scheduled to be completed in time for the 2017 season. Along with Falcons games and a number of other major sporting events, Atlanta has placed a bid to have the new stadium be host to a Super Bowl in either 2019, 2020, or 2021.
