Report: Lynch still hasn't filed papers despite being placed on retired list

The Seattle Seahawks officially placed running back Marshawn Lynch on the reserve/retired list last week, but, according to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Lynch has yet to file his retirement papers.

The Seahawks placed Lynch on the list based on the tweet he sent out during the Super Bowl, strongly suggesting his retirement.

Lynch hasn't been in contact with the Seahawks throughout the offseason, but he also made no effort to deny that he had played his last game after Seattle announced his placement on the reserve list.

If he were to return, Seattle would be faced with a decision to put his $9-million cap hit back on their roster, trade him, or release the All-Pro running back.

If Lynch wants to return to the NFL, he could file for reinstatement, but he would have to do so before the 2016 trade deadline to avoid waivers. If the Seahawks were to release Lynch instead of leaving him on the reserve/retired list, he would be free to return to the league and sign with the team of his choice.

The Seahawks, NFL, and Lynch's agent have yet to comment on the report.
