Las Vegas mayor: Chargers also in play for relocation

Might the Oakland Raiders have some competition in their pursuit of Las Vegas?

Mayor Carolyn Goodman told "The Dan Patrick Show" on Thursday that while the Raiders are the city's primary focus, the San Diego Chargers are also in play for relocation.

"I know they are absolutely looking to move," Goodman said.

With Goodman's comments marking the first link between the Chargers and Las Vegas, it would appear possible that city officials are merely keeping all options on the table in pursuit of an NFL franchise.

The Chargers previously reached an agreement to join the Rams in a move to Los Angeles, thus giving the club a fallback if a long-term stadium solution in San Diego doesn't take shape.

The Raiders, meanwhile, having made no progress toward a new stadium in Oakland, seem to be moving quickly on Las Vegas.

Owner Mark Davis has indicated that he'd move the team if the financing for a new stadium is approved. Adding some optimism for the other side, Goodman recently said that the Raiders will be in Las Vegas if the state handles the process properly.
