Ryan Fitzpatrick's contract status remains in limbo well into the summer.

Fitzpatrick compiled one of the best seasons of his career with the New York Jets last year, throwing for 3,905 yards and 31 touchdowns against 15 interceptions.

The veteran quarterback is a free agent, as the Jets and Fitzpatrick have yet to agree on a suitable contract ahead of the 2016 season. Although the Jets stated that they want to retain Fitzpatrick, no progress has been made on a potential deal.

Jets owner Woody Johnson reiterated that unless both parties can reach a deal, there will be no further developments.

"No news. Until both sides come together, there's no deal," Johnson said to Bob Glauber of Newsday.

As the roster is currently presented, Geno Smith will be the Jets' starting quarterback for Week 1, although Bryce Petty and 2016 second-round pick Christian Hackenberg will seriously challenge for the role.

Fitzpatrick wants to play next season but his contract demands may prove to be untenable. At this juncture, it's a contest to see which side breaks first.
