Teammate: Lions' Levy 'looking good' in return from hip surgery

The Detroit Lions' defense severely regressed in 2015, and part of the reason was the driving force of the unit, linebacker DeAndre Levy, who was only able to play 17 snaps all season.

Levy suffered a hip injury during preseason, and after a brief attempt to play through the injury, he was forced to undergo surgery that ended his campaign.

Now, the 30-year-old is participating in offseason workouts, and his teammate and fellow linebacker Tahir Whitehead believes he's on the road to regaining his All Pro-level form.

"He's been looking really good," Whitehead said, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. "I know the type of guy Lev is. I know he missed the game last year and he was going to work and get back, and what we've seen the last couple weeks is exactly that. He's worked to get back on the field with us."

Levy started in all 32 regular-season games over the last two seasons, racking up 270 tackles over that period and establishing himself as one of the league's most productive linebackers.

He's expected to be healthy enough to fully participate in training camp later in the offseason.

"Levy brings that energy," Whitehead said. "You know the type of guy Levy is. You're going to feel him when you're out there on the field. It's extremely exciting to get him back because we know as a linebacker corps, he was truly missed during this past season."
